This listing consists of 18 rope stropped blocks. Included are 7 plain singles, 4 singles with becket, 2 plain doubles, 2 doubles with becket, 2 plain triples and 1 triple with becket. These 4 1/2 blocks were custom hand crafted for a 30' Gartside Cutter project which was scuttled due to owner's health. The blocks are morticed solid white oak with the grain running crosswise as is proper. The shaped oak blocks were dipped in iron acetate, which reacts to the tannins in the oak to give the dark color. After thorough drying, they were immersed in double boiled linseed oil for 7 days. After a month of curing the blocks got 2 coats of uv resistant marine spar varnish to complete the weatherproofing. The sheaves are 2 1/2" diameter and will take up to 7/16" rope.
They are turned from solid black Delrin and run friction-free on polished 3/8 316 stainless axles. These blocks run very smoothly and are extremely quiet.
The rope strops are made from 1/2 Vintage 3 Strand polyester from R&W Ropes. Breaking strength is 6,200 lbs.The load capacity of the blocks is equal to the strength of the rope. Safe working load is 6200 divided by 5 = 1240lbs. The thimbles are solid brass and have developed some patina after 2 years of storage in a cool dry place. These blocks are not museum grade art pieces, but rather are meant for use in the real world on a real boat. They have very minor cosmetic flaws being made by hand, and no two are exactly the same. They will be reliable and long lasting complements to a nice classic yacht.
